Robert Wilson Thygerson

Robert Wilson Thygerson, 95, of Safety Harbor, Florida passed away in the early hours of July 11, 2017. He was born November 1, 1921 in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin to Frederick Thygerson and Marie Alwicher.

He served honorably in the Army during World War II, later returning home to complete his education in music. He was a highly published arranger and composer, an educator, performer, and church choir director. He spent much of his career in the public school system of Kettering, Ohio, where he served as a teacher and superintendent of music and art. He also taught as an adjunct instructor at Wright State University.

In demand as an accompanist and sideman, he performed regularly with many celebrities who passed through the Dayton, Ohio area and continued into his 90s to play at church and community events despite severe arthritis in his hands.

Bob's sense of humor was an ever-present aspect of his personality. Always a hard worker and provider for his family. He also enjoyed golf and gardening, the latter of which he continued to do until moving last year.

In recent years, Robert (Bob) lived through the loss of both of his natural children, Debbie and Tom, as well as his wife, Patricia Thygerson. He is survived by stepchildren who are grateful to have had him in their lives, including; Ken Norris, Michele Gagen, Tim Norris, Steve Norris, and Susan Norris as well as numerous grandchildren and step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be Saturday, September 23, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Northwood Presbyterian Church, 2875 State Road 580, Clearwater, Florida 33761..
