Debra L Jones

Debra Lynn “Debbie” (Cobler) Jones passed away after a long illness on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at her home in St. Petersburg, Fla., at the age of 71. The daughter of Althea Midgley and Charles Scott (both deceased), she was the longtime loving wife of Lawrence Wayne “Larry” Jones of St. Petersburg. 

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Debbie graduated from Dayton’s Patterson Co-Op High School before moving to the Sunshine State with her mother. She worked throughout her life in office administration and retired as an office manager specializing in data entry. She enjoyed collecting cat and fairy art; watching World Championship Wrestling; listening to the music of Bruno Mars, Janis Joplin, The Beatles and James Taylor; and viewing films featuring Patrick Swayze.  

In 1986, Debbie first met Larry at Clancy’s bar in St. Pete, and they married in Sawgrass Lake Park on June 23, 1991, honeymooning on Sanibel Island. Together, they found happiness competing in local bowling leagues and spending good times with family and friends, especially when Larry played banjo in a bluegrass band. Occasional travels took her north to Ohio with her husband to visit relatives and to Sanibel Island to dip her toes into the beauty of Florida’s Gulf Coast. An avid cat lover, Debbie made a home for several generations of feline fur babies and leaves in Larry’s care cherished kitty Chelsea. 

Small in stature but mighty in spirit, Debbie is lovingly remembered and missed by her husband of 32 years, Larry Jones; brother, Tony (Wanda) Scott; brother in-law and sister-in-law Paul and Angie Jones; 3 nephews Derrick (Stephanee), Eric, and Aaron (Natasha) Scott; 3 nieces Teri Scott & Toni Scott (Jeff Stoltz); and Jessica Jones; as well as many cousins and friends.    

Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Swart Funeral Home, 207 E. Central Ave., West Carrollton, OH 45449 with Pastor Scott Wells officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (1 hour prior to service) on Friday at the funeral home.
