Claude Jean Obituary

Claude Numa Jean, December 4, 1931 – April 15, 2018

Claude was born in Algiers, Algeria. His middle name “Numa” simply means the “Lion.” Those who knew him, quickly understood why this name fit him so very well. He was simply a fierce fighter. His family was so proud to call him father, dad, daddy, grandpa, etc.

Claude began his life in Algeria and through many of life’s great journeys made his way to upstate New York through Ellis Island in pursuit of the American dream. After several years in upstate New York, he permanently moved his family to Oldsmar in 1963. Since his arrival in the United States, Claude was a true American and lived the American Dream.

If you met Claude, you loved Claude. He was passionate in everything he did, whether it was discussing politics or cooking a family meal. He lived his life for his family and friends. He always spoke lovingly, and usually loudly, about the pride and joy of his life – his children. He cherished the success of his children and was proud that each of his 9 children "His Pride,” if you will, had become productive members of society. His children, in turn, brought beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren into this world with continued mirrored success.

Even with all of the demands of such a large family and the modest home he was raising his family in, he would never turn away a person in need. He had many who considered him their “second father” and there were many he considered his “tenth, eleventh and …. children.”

Claude was survived by his companion Margaret Lamarca, his children: Patrick Jean, Martine Olsen, Francois (Butch) Jean, Claude Jean, Catherine (Cathy) Maple, Helen Wilson, Henri Jean and Dominique Bennett. Grandchildren: Nicholas (Nick), Isabelle, Marlon, Sean, Amy, Christophe, Danielle, Briana, Michael, Megan, Lauryn, Tyler, Hannah and Ashley. His great-grandchildren, Ethan, Amelia and Liam, his many French nieces, nephews and cousins. He was peacefully reunited in heaven with his first wife Marie France, father Victor, mother Renee, sister Bobette, son Philippe, and his granddaughter Barbara “Lindsay.”

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to Claude’s favorite creations of God – dogs and children. Both being innocent and givers of unconditional love
