Frank Louis Teats of New Port Richey, FL passed away peacefully after a brief illness on May 3, 2019 in Hospice Care. He was born September 11, 1926 in Rising Sun, Indiana. He was proceeded in death by his parents Louis and Hazel Scott Teats. He is survived by his three children Rick Teats (Suzi), of Apollo Beach, FL, Terry Teats (Susie), New Port Richey, FL and Missy Teats Wood (Todd) Anderson, Indiana. He will also be sadly missed by his grandchildren; Tanji Hawk, Riverview, FL; Tony Teats, Valrico, FL; Torrey Teats, Indianapolis, Indiana; Tasha Baker, Hartford City, Indiana and Haleigh Shrock, Anderson, Indiana. In addition he also has eight great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Frank is also survived by his loving sister, Joy Trick, of Mooresville, NC. They were very close and enjoyed conversing by phone every week.
Frank graduated from Vevay High School in 1944. He attended Indiana University for one year where he was a member of the 1944-45 “Hurryin Hoosiers” basketball team before entering the Navy. After finishing his four year tour of duty, he returned to finish his B.S. Degree at Hanover College in 1950. While at Hanover, he had a stand out career playing basketball and baseball. He was named the Team Baseball MVP during his Junior Season. He also earned an M.S. degree from Ball State University. After graduation Frank began his teaching career at Richmond High School then soon after he became a Math teacher at Hartford City High School. Frank also coached football, basketball and baseball before he was named the first principal of the Hartford City Junior High School. During his 36 year career in education, he was also active as a basketball official. He officiated in the Indiana Collegiate Conference for many years before retiring. Mr. Teats was one of the founding fathers of the Little League of Hartford City and also served on the City Council. After his retirement in 1984, he stayed very active. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Eastlake Woodlands Golf Course in Oldsmar, Florida. He coached golf and basketball at Oldsmar Christian High School and also enjoyed tutoring math to high school students for several years. Frank was a 65 year member of the Hartford City Legion Post 159 and was a lifelong member of the Methodist Church.
There will be a Memorial Service at Holloway Funeral Home, Oldsmar, Florida on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at 11:00 AM. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to the Hartford City Kiwanis Club, at 409 Meadow Lane Hartford City, IN 47348 or to the Hartford City American Legion Post 159.
