Kenneth Harris, Sr. Obituary

Kenneth Dale Harris, Sr., of Oldsmar, died June 7 at Suncoast Hospice. Born May 31, 1930 in Fariston, Kentucky, he grew up in Hamilton Ohio, spent summers in London, Kentucky. Then moved to Florida in 1961. He settled in Oldsmar in 1962 moving to his home of 56 years in 1963. There he raised a family of five, became an active member of the community, spent countless hours with his children, in-laws, nephews and nieces, his children’s families and friends, grandchildren, friends and neighbors.  He was a member of the Community United Methodist Church of Oldsmar.  He was a leader in Boy Scout Troop 64 in the 1970’s and later served as Charter Organization Representative in the same troop.  He was a charter member of the Oldsmar Historical Society serving in various positions up until his passing. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 12186 of Oldsmar and the American Legion Post 238 in Safety Harbor. He was a member of North Bay Moose Lodge of Oldsmar.  He was a tanker truck driver retiring after 32 years from Star Enterprises-Texaco. He was a numismatist and avid collector of Texaco memorabilia.  He is predeceased by his father Tilford D. Harris, Mother Lela Harris-Reynolds, sons Arnold D. Harris, Sr. and Russell D. Harris, Sr., brothers-in-laws  Calvin Spivey, Ralph Spivey, Marvin Spivey, Ronald Spivey, Arnold (Nick) Spivey, Daryl Spivey, sisters-in-laws Virginia Milton, Elizbeth Harris, Rosemary Menniger-Richeson. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years Janet S. Harris, sister Nina Jo Colson (Ohio), son Kenneth D. Harris, Jr. (Siofa) of Virginia, daughters Kimberly Reed (David Sloane) of Palm Harbor, Jane Anderson (Frederic) of Hudson, sisters-in-laws Evelyn Hensley (Ohio), Barbara Lakes (Ohio), Jocelyn Spivey (Melbourne), grandchildren Patricia A. Harris (California), Russell D. Harris, Jr. (Kansas), Kenneth R. Harris (Kansas), Andrew T. Anderson (Hudson), Kalyn M. Harris (Oldsmar), Arnold D. Harris, Jr. (Oldsmar), Allen L. Anderson (Hudson), Oderic St. Hilaire (Oldsmar), four great grandchildren, 15 nephews, 10 nieces, many grandnephews, and grandnieces, and friends. Kenneth put family, friends, neighbors, and others before himself. He loved Oldsmar, being a truck driver, and a family man. A Memorial Service is scheduled at the Community United Methodist Church of Oldsmar, Saturday, June 22 at 1:00 pm and a reception will follow in Manahan Hall.
