Mary Elizabeth Lewis, 79, of Safety Harbor, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2018. She was born April 28, 1939 in Rochester, New York, to Harry Vincent Hale and Lois Georgine Wakeman. After graduating from John Marshall High School, she stayed and worked in New York. She went on a blind date with a nice, young man to New York City. The date went so well, that May 23, 1959 she and Robert Charles Lewis were married in Rochester, New York. For a few years, they spent their time living internationally at the places Robert was stationed. They bounced from France to Italy, and eventually landed in Illinois. Mary met some of her best friends in Orland Park, Illinois. She enjoyed working at the Liberty School as a lunch lady, staying healthy at Curves and walking, shopping, coffee dates with her friend Chris. She and Robert had two children in the years they shared; David and Kathleen. Mary was the kind of person who loved being with "young people". She loved a good party and knew how to light up a room. She would come into any situation with a smile and a story. If you had the pleasure of meeting Mary she was stubborn and sassy but kind, funny, loving and always happy. But of all the wonderful things she was, her most special feature was being a friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Lewis; daughter, Kathleen Lewis Eskew; grandson and love of her life, Dirk Eskew; son-in-law, David Eskew; sister-in-law, Leanna Hale; niece, Beth; and nephews: Mark and Chris.
She is predeceased by her father, Harry Hale; mother, Lois Wakeman; son, David Lewis; brother, Timothy Hale; and aunts and uncles.
Services will be a celebration of life at Kathi and Dave Eskews house on Sunday August 12th from 3-7 pm.
The family will have a Memorial Mass at St. Julie's Billiart Catholic Church 7399 West 159th Street, Tinley Park, Illinois 60477, Saturday, September 1st, from 9-10 AM, followed by graveside service and luncheon to follow at Papa Joe's.
