Rafael (Jr.) Roman

Rafael Roman Jr. was born in Paterson, NJ on October 10, 1965.  He passed away November 10, 2019 in his sleep at home in St. Petersburg Florida.

For more than 3 decades he was loved and known by many, especially in the music industry. Better known as DJ Rafy Roman, El Poder de la Mezcla, and Mr Magic Fingers, El Rey de la Salsa, his passion for music brought many generations to the dance floor. Rafy had various mix shows on 92.5FM; Maxima Fiesta, Sabado Night Live and Salsa Maxima. He was a music pioneer in the Tampa Bay area and a mentor to many young DJ’s.

Many have known that Rafy had many medical issues and living day by day was a struggle for him. Yet he found the time to make people happy, dance, and have a good time with his music.  He dedicated his life to music and the love for his family. He was funny, goofy and we will forever remember his loud laugh.

We lost a great son, brother, uncle, cousin, and DJ.  He is survived by his mother (Aida Roman), father (Rafael Roman Sr.) sisters (Arely Lopez & Coraly Castellanos) brothers-n-law (Sammy Lopez, Job Castellanos).  He is also survived by the nephews he loved & their wives (Giovanni Castellanos) (Ivan & Ashely Lopez), (Alex & Yvette Lopez) as well as many of his awesome cousins, aunts and uncles, and so many other close friends. He also called 92.5 MAXIMA FM his work family.  He loved his many fans that listened to his radio show as well as those who visited him in whichever club he played. He considered his DJ colleagues as personal friends and family. He was also associated with Jehovah’s Witnesses and deeply respected those religious beliefs.

The Funeral will be held Friday November 15, 2019  5:30 pm – 7:00 pm public viewing and 7:00 funeral service in Spanish for family members and the closest friends. Seating is limited to 150 people for the service. There may be some standing room only.

The Family has set up a go fund me page to provide Rafy with a proper funeral and assist with the unexpected funeral expense. This has been heart breaking to his entire family, friends, co-workers and our community.
