Sandra Caron Parnell Spikes was born on August 30, 1938 in Dunedin, Florida and died on October 12, 2018 in Lexington, NC.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Tyro United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall with Pastor Randy Foster officiating followed by a graveside service at 2 pm Saturday, October 20 at Dunedin Florida Cemetery. Rev. Jason Knott, Senior Pastor of Dunedin First United Methodist Church, the family church Sandra's grandparents J. Lott and Celia Howell helped form, will officiate the graveside service.
She was the daughter of the late Tom and Lois (Howell) Parnell, who owned the IGA Grocery Store. Sandy graduated from Clearwater High School and went on to St. Pete Junior College and then to Florida State University, where she majored in nursing. She was also a volunteer firefighter, a paramedic and a private investigator.
For nearly 20 years, she worked as a registered nurse practitioner for the Pinellas County Jail, a job she thoroughly enjoyed. She was a member of DAR – Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a lifelong Methodist and member of Tyro United Methodist Church.
Sandy was a fifth generation native Floridian on her mom’s side of the family. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Janice Parnell Gause, and a precious 10-year-old granddaughter, Brandy, who died of leukemia.
She is survived by her daughter, Caron Myers (Danny ‘Chocolate’) of Lexington, NC; daughter, Cassandra Fish (John) of Redington Beach; and her grandchildren, Alexi Pappas Miller (Seth) , Carter Fish, Jed Fish, Carolina Fish and Campbell Fish.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Feast 14 at Tyro United Methodist Church, 4484 S. NC Hwy 150, Lexington, NC 27295 and Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
