JOSEPH “JOE” GLEN CLELAND SR. 58, of Oldsmar, Florida, passed away on October 13, 2024, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, Florida. Joe, a beloved father and Navy veteran, was a charismatic spirit whose presence brightened every room. He was born on July 6, 1966, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and was the son of Max Cleland (deceased) and Patricia Cleland, long-time residents of Oldsmar, Florida.
Growing up with his two sisters, Kristin (Robert) Perrone and Nikole (Dan) Segale, both of whom survive him, Joe developed a strong sense of family and community. He served his country for eight years in the U.S. Navy as a Machinist Mate 3rd Class Petty Officer, an experience that shaped his strong work ethic and commitment to integrity. While Joe took great pride in his military service, it was his love for family that truly defined him.
Joe is survived by his three children: Joseph (Nicole) Cleland Jr., Serena (Grant) Petty, and Mackenzie Cleland, along with his three grandchildren Lucy Cleland, Vaughn Petty, and Quinn Petty. He loved them dearly and cherished every moment spent together. He will be remembered as a jovial and fun-loving individual who thrived in the spotlight, sharing stories and laughter. His legendary "Joe Tales" brought smiles to many, and he was happiest when surrounded by loved ones, singing karaoke, or out on the water boating.
Beyond his family, Joe was known for his generosity and sense of community. Each year, he dressed up as Santa, volunteered in parades, and would lend a helping hand whenever needed. He believed in doing what was right, even when no one was watching, and instilled these values in his children, along with a deep respect for truth and integrity.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Community United Methodist Church of Oldsmar. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Community United Methodist Church of Oldsmar or Oldsmar Cares.
