Mary Ellen Dyer

April 24, 1950 ~ July 14, 2016 (age 66) 66 Years Old

Mary Ellen Dyer ( MOE) (MOE-MOE)

"A new star sparkles in the heavens, and her name is Mary"

Devoted mother, grandmother, and dedicated friend, Mary Ellen Dyer (MOE), 66 years old, passed away as the result of a tragic car accident in Saint Petersburg, FL.

Mary grew up in Fairhaven, MA., graduated from Portland College of Art in Maine and settled in Saco, Maine for many years where she married Charles Peter Dyer and had her family of three beloved children Charles and Aaron Dyer, and Krista Dyer-Duffey.

In addition to her children, she is survived by her adored granddaughters Jaiden, Reese, and Brooke, her husband Charles Peter Dyer, mother-in-law Barbara Dyer, brother-in-law Sean Dyer and sister-in-law Pam Dyer-----all of Maine, three loving sisters Carol and husband Don, Diane and husband Dan, Susanne Isabelle and companion Doug Dwelly all of Massachusetts.

Mary also had many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins residing in ME, MA, and CA.

Mary was preceded in death by her treasured parents Marie (Dahl) and David Tollefsen of Fairhaven, MA and father-in-law Charles Dyer, Sr. of Portland, ME.

For Mary, her family was the center of her life. She had a heart that embraced not only her immediate family but the extended family that grew as many friends of her children considered her a second mother and lovingly called her MOE, and her granddaughters, who she adored, called her MOE-MOE.

Mary had another special name donned by her mother and father who lovingly nick-named her Outy.

There are many names for the beloved - and hers will forever be remembered as --Mary, Mary Ellen, MOE, MOE-MOE, Outy, and Mare, which bundled together defined a very special woman. Mary devoted her life to making her family and friends happy. She was kind and compassionate, beautiful inside and out, generous and selfless, talented and creative, fun-loving and always there for her family and friends.

Her friends might have been strangers when they met, but her smile and fun-loving personality made her an unforgettable person, a life-long friend they always could count on.

Mary also had a childhood friend Cate who passed away two years ago. Mary Ellen was by Cate's side in her final days. Their life-long friendship

was exceptional as they grew up like peas in a pod in Fairhaven, MA. Cate became her sister in spirit.

While living in Maine, Mary met up with Sherri who became a best buddy and treasured friend as was Dee of Clearwater, Florida when Mary moved there.

Twenty- nine years ago Mary moved to Florida beginning a new adventure. Belongings stuffed in the trunk and tied to the roof of her car she moved from frigid Maine to sunny Oldsmar with her children and future Fiancé Paul Warner.

Mary and Paul, a retired Navy veteran, enjoyed their life together and travelled throughout Florida making many new friends along the way. One of their favorite spots to visit was Daytona Beach. Mary was by Paul's his side when he passed away 5 years ago.

Mary was a creative woman and talented artist whose passions included sketching, painting and etching.

She received many awards for her artwork in Massachusetts. While living in Maine, she was commissioned to illustrate the State of Maine Commemorative 'Sesquicentennial Cookbook'. Mary designed fanciful caricatures of home cooked Down East recipes.

Mary was an enthusiastic activist - who advocated for the ecological protection of "Mother Earth. She designed the first "Earth Day" flag and marched in the first parade in Portland , ME while in college.

Mary Ellen also was an animal lover. She had three special dogs during her lifetime. The love of her life was 'Skipper'

a golden Labrador mix.

Then came 'Suzy Dog' - a red Chow who loved to chase squirrels during their walks in the park. Recently, Mary took in an abandoned dog named Shylo an Australian Ridgeback. Mary nurtured her new canine buddy until she died.

In closing, Mary was a lover of life, a devoted mother, grandmother, and a sincere friend. She was a Renaissance Woman who was both fearless and brave. Mary's family, and for all who had the honor to be part of her life will carry Mary's memory close to their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to "Krista Dyer" for the Shylo Rehabilitation Project. Whatever choice, if you wish, is up to you. (Mary adopted Shylo recently - he was an abandoned and mistreated dog in need of rehabilitation, which Mary was working toward professional training for Shylo).

Thank you for your kind thoughts - The Dyer Family.
