Angel Lopez went to be His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 21, 2021. He went away from the body at his earthly home in Oldsmar, Florida, in peace and full confidence that he would awake in the glorious presence of His Lord. As the beloved patriarch of his family, he will be greatly missed. He was admired and loved by an extended network of friends and brothers and sisters in Christ across the country and the world.
Angel was born on August 1, 1933 in Camagüey, Cuba to Margot Flores and Jose Manuel Lopez. Angel came to know the Lord at age 17 when he heard the gospel, repented of his sins, and put his faith in Christ alone. Angel faithfully followed Jesus Christ for the rest of his life. He attended Instituto Biblico Pentecostal Manacas Las Villas in Cuba, graduating from there in 1959 and serving as a pastor throughout Cuba until he moved to the United States in 1968. Angel thanked the Lord for His graciousness and kindness in allowing his family and him to escape communism and build a new life in America. Angel loved this country and was well known for his patriotism and gratitude for the blessing of being a United States citizen.
Angel married Lilia Escobar in 1960 after meeting in Bible college in Cuba. They were married for nearly 62 years. The Lord blessed them with three children – Raquel, Angel, and Adonis - and a loving daughter-in-law, Lina Gonzales. Those children gave them five grandchildren – Vanessa Alabarces, Illiana Alabarces, Jessica Lopez, Zabdiel Ruiz, and Marian Ruiz. Angel was given the nickname, “Tata” by his first granddaughter Vanessa and the nickname has been used by every generation since. Angel was blessed to know and love four great grandchildren – Daniel Jr. (DJ) Lopez, Briana Lopez, Adriana Lopez, and Xander Wise.
Angel had a large, loving family both here in America and in Cuba, including his brothers Carlos Lopez (deceased) and Jose Ramon Lopez, sisters Maria del Carmen Lopez, Diana Lopez, Nelsa Perez, and Cristina Perez. He had many nieces, nephews and other relatives who loved him dearly and mourn his departure from this world but rejoice that he is now in the presence of His Savior.
Angel is survived by his wife Lilia, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Angel is also survived by his two cats, Nene and Kiki, who he doted on lovingly.
A service will be held this summer. Please contact the family for more details.
