Donald Edwards

Donald R. Edwards (88) was unexpectedly called home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 9, 2022.  He was born on October 12, 1933, in Ruth, North Carolina, son of the late Martin Luther and Ina Elizabeth Edwards.  Don received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Florida State University in 1965 and was the first of three generations of Edwards to attend FSU.  He received a Master of Science degree in Management from Troy State University in 1980.  He served in the United States Air Force for 31 years in aircraft maintenance within the enlisted and officer corp.  He retired as a Colonel.  His career included assignments in Vietnam, Korea, Europe, and various locations across the United States to include two tours in Hawaii.  After his retirement from the military, Don began his second career working for the McDonnel Douglas Corporation (later bought by the Boeing Corporation) which began a 15-year adventure living and working in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Thailand.  He completed his second working career in 2000 to take up full-time residence in Oldsmar, Florida and become a strong member of the community.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores (Lori) Edwards; two children Martin Edwards (Sharon) of Potomac Falls, Virginia; Jody Edwards of Oldsmar, Florida; one granddaughter: Megan Boss (Joel) of Canton, Georgia; two great granddaughters: Addison (7) and Emily (5).  He was preceded in death by his brother Daniel.

Don was a member of Community United Methodist Church where he served in many roles to advance the name and cause of Jesus.  A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at 1:00pm at Community United Methodist Church in Oldsmar.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to your church or favorite charity.
