Eva Irene DeHart

Eva Irene DeHart (née Gardner) passed into Glory Land to be with God and her beloved husband, Don DeHart, on September 23, 2026.

Eva died peacefully at her home in Palm Harbor, Florida, surrounded by the care and love of her daughter, Roseline DeHart, and her family.

Eva had been under hospice care for several days. She had experienced heart problems and received a pacemaker in 2023. She was also a cancer survivor, having overcome cancer many years ago.

Eva was born in Elwood, Indiana, on November 23, 1938. Her father was Grover Frederick Gardner, and her mother was Mary Marcella Gardner (née Hanger).

Eva studied to become a legal secretary and worked in that field. For a time, she thought she would remain a “bachelor gal.” She eventually started her own secretarial and booking service.

Then one day, while working with a construction company that was bidding on a job, a man smiled at her—and that smile changed the course of her life.

That man was Don DeHart.

Eva and Don were married on November 10, 1973. Together, they went on to found the nonprofit For Haiti with Love.

Eva ran the organization’s office and handled the work in the United States, while Don traveled frequently to Haiti as time and finances allowed. Eva also traveled to Haiti several times to help with the mission and the people they loved so dearly.

Eva’s life was one of service, love, faith, and dedication to others.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don DeHart; her parents; and her sister, Linda Lou Gardner.

She leaves behind her daughter, Roseline DeHart; her two grandsons, Bryan Saint Fleur and Herley Saint Fleur; and a dear family friend, Maken Saint Fleur.

Services

Holloway Funeral Home will handle Eva’s cremation.

Her ashes will be interred at Elwood Cemetery in Elwood, Indiana.

A Celebration of Life will be held at United Methodist Church in Oldsmar on November 14, 2026, at 11AM.
