On December 30, 2019 Foye F. Staniford Jr. passed away at the age of 88. Born on February 1, 1931 in Albany, NY to Foye and Cordelia Staniford, “Sonny” lived a life filled with love, family and good times.
Sonny attended the Pomfret School and the University of Virginia. After serving in the Navy, he became a member of the New York Stock Exchange and a senior vice president at Pershing & Company, the New York financial services firm.
He could always be found amongst his many friends at the Rockaway Hunting Club, the Lawrence Beach Club and at Tampa Bay Downs race track. His colorful wardrobe was legendary, exceeded only by his warmth and generosity. His loyalty to the New York Giants and the University of Virginia Cavaliers was unwavering.
Pre-deceased by his first wife, Ellen Breed, Sonny is survived by his beloved wife Elizabeth “Lee” Staniford, sons Foye McKean Staniford and William Mansfield Staniford, daughters Ellen Whitman Williams and Louise Blakeney Williams, and grandchildren Benjamin, Sarah, Ann, Caroline and McKean.
Sonny often said he was the luckiest man in the world. Everyone who knew him would agree.
Memorial services will be held at Trinity-St. John’s Church, Hewlett, NY this summer.
