Frances Louise (McKinney) Jones

Frances Louise (McKinney) Jones was born on March 21, 1920, in Talladega, Alabama to Jewell and Hardy McKinney. She was the oldest girl and second oldest child of 11. She loved learning and was a great student. She was particularly great with spelling and participated in a county spelling bee in her teenage years.

Frances McKinney married Francis (Frank) Marion Jones Jr in 1938 [preceded in death 2003]. Frank and Frances went on to have six, strong-willed boys, Jack, David [preceded in death 1968], Donnie, Gary, Roger, and Steve. Those boys went on to start their own families and Miss Frances was blessed with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great grandchildren- all of whom she loved very much! All of Miss Frances’ grandchildren love her so much, and it should be noted that her first born grandchild Stephanie took on the amazing care of her grandmother in the last many years of her life. Stephanie made sure that grandma was spoiled rotten until her very last breath.

Frances was a lifelong caregiver and became known as “grandma” to every person that she ever met. She eventually got her license at the age of 83 so she could “legally” drive around town to provide care for those she loved!

Miss Frances was a part of the Church of the Nazarene. She both attended and served her church family every chance she could. She both loved and served the Lord with all her heart. Frances loved to share the gospel in the form of both telling storytelling and singing church songs and hymns.  Frances, her husband Frank, and sister Beatrice sang church songs on the radio in Birmingham, AL in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Frances loved music. She played the guitar and sang all the time. She even continued singing in her nursing home up to the age of 100 years old. She sure loved to entertain! She loved to laugh, and her laughter was simply contagious.

Frances passed away at 4:51pm on February 21,2022. She will forever be remembered for her quick wit, love of Jesus, and caring soul. Frances will be laid to rest on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 11am in the Bushnell National Cemetery.
