Howard Katz Obituary

Howard Katz passed away on July 8th of a long illness at the age of 75. He passed away at home, surrounded by the love of his life partner and of his family.  He was a sweet, affectionate man and will be sorely missed by all that knew him.

Howard was born in New London, CT and grew up in Montville, CT. He attended the Norwich Free Academy and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst where he majored in music.  He was a consummate pianist whose repertory included everything from the Great American Songbook to jazz to classical.  He had a long, enjoyable career as a pianist, entertaining in venues all over the country but primarily in Boston, Massachusetts and the surrounding area.  His music is also fondly remembered by his many fans in the Mystic, CT area. He worked very hard to perfect his art and his music gave joy to thousands of people.

Besides being an amazing musician, Howard had a terrific sense of humor and loved to make people laugh.  He loved nature and enjoyed camping and taking long walks in the woods.  He had a true passion for boating and enjoyed many outings on the water with friends in Boston Harbor and Fishers Island Sound. He spent his later years in retirement in Mystic, CT. and Oldsmar, Florida.

Howard was an only child and had no children of his own but he was very close to his loving family.  He is predeceased by his parents, Leon and Toby Katz, and his cousins Eugene Mallove, Stuart Schreiber and Fred Hollander.  He is survived by his life partner Catherine Jackson, his uncle Arthur Hollander and his cousins Lisa Zakar, David Mannis, Steve Mannis, Alan Hollander and their children and his cousins Stuart Hollander, Maxine Mohamed, Martin Hollander, Ethan Mallove, Kim Woodard, Jeni Hollander, Jackie Kapos and Jon Hollander.

Howard, you are loved by all of us.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Mystic, CT.  Family and friends may contact Catherine Jackson for further details.
