Keith Thompson

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that we, the family of Keith Thompson, have to inform you that Keith passed away in Palm Harbor, Florida on Monday, September 12, 2022.

Keith had a kind and generous spirit and was much loved by many, friends and family.

Keith was born in 1942 in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, England, UK. to Phillip and Elizabeth Thompson, He had one brother, the late, Brian Thompson(the late Valerie Thompson).  Keith and his wife Gaye (Gabrielle)were married in Luton, Bedfordshire, England in 1965. Three years later they came to the US in 1968. They had a 57 year marriage. They lived in Sterling Heights, Michigan for 35 years where they raised two sons, Paul and Michael. (Sonya). Keith and Gaye retired to Clearwater, Florida in 2002. He was a caring and loving father who will be remembered by them for his great sense of fun.  Keith was an Engineer and enjoyed a long and successful career of over 40 years with General Motors at the Technical Center in Warren, Michigan and before that at Vauxhall Motors, (GM) Luton, Bedfordshire, England, UK.  He was a much loved and favorite Uncle to Hazell, (John) (Nikki (Dennis), Amy, (Rey) Johnny (Jane) and Suzie (Dan) and Great Uncle to Simon, Alex, Isa, Colin, Elizabeth, Keira, Thomas and Eleanor, and several Cousins In England, namely, Yvonne, Margarette, Larry, Kevin, Mary, Pauline, Malcolm, Vanessa, Lesley and Heather, who were often subject to his jokes and relentless teasing but really loved him anyway.  Keith was passionate about many things, especially his family. They were his life.  His career at General Motors and of course, his golf. He was an avid golfer. His golfing buddies in Michigan will remember well his stories and never ending jokes.  Keith is also survived by his loving best buddy cat Murphy, who is still grieving and has slept on Keith’s pillow since his passing. Keith had an infectiously positive nature. Everywhere he went where he would pleasantly chat people up. You could be sure if you went somewhere with him there would be pleasantries exchanged and jokes made. He made friends everywhere he went and with nearly everyone he interacted with.  That great sense of humor and his quick wit were Keith’s trademark. His sons and family and friends will remember him well as a great practical joker . There are many, many stories which we as a family and with close friends will we hope in time to once again be able to laugh with him.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held at a later date. Memorial Donations may be made in Keith’s name to Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida.
