Lillia Lopez Obituary

Lilia Mata Lopez was peacefully ushered into Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 1, 2024.

His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’  Matthew 25:21

Lilia was born on February 8, 1937 in Cañada de Yarey, Cuba. She is one of 15 children born to Manolo and Maria Teresa. She is survived by her children Raquel and Angel, along with three loving granddaughters and four precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by several sisters, a brother, and a large extended family throughout Cuba and America.

Lilia graduated with a degree from El Instituto Biblico Pentecostal Manacas Las Villas in Cuba. While there, she met her husband Angel Lopez, whom she married in 1960. They were married nearly 62 years. They moved their young family to America in 1968, working extremely hard to give their children opportunities that would never have been available to them in their native country.

She rises also while it is still night

And gives food to her household

And portions to her maidens.  Proverbs 31:15

She looks well to the ways of her household,

And does not eat the bread of idleness.  Proverbs 31:27

Though she faced many hardships through her life, Lilia rested in her Savior Jesus Christ, always having her hope placed firmly in Him.

Strength and dignity are her clothing,

And she smiles at the future.  Proverbs 31:25

Lilia generously gave to others from whatever the Lord had provided her, from helping establish churches in Cuba, to packing ample amounts of leftovers for anyone that came over for lunch.

Lilia made many trips back to her home country to visit her large family there and graciously provide for their needs. She regularly sent them packages of food, medicine, shoes, and other basic necessities, often taking from her own supplies to give to them.

She extends her hand to the poor,

And she stretches out her hands to the needy.

Proverbs 31:20

This obituary cannot begin to recount how special Lilia was to so many, nor can it even hint at the many qualities and characteristics that made her such a faithful mother, grandmother, friend, and servant of the Lord.

Her children rise up and bless her;

Her husband also, and he praises her, saying:

"Many daughters have done nobly,

But you excel them all."

Charm is deceitful and beauty is vain,

But a woman who fears the LORD, she shall be praised.

Give her the product of her hands,

And let her works praise her in the gates.   Proverbs 31:28-31

Lilia was not only the beloved matriarch of her family, but a spiritual mother to countless people across America, Cuba, and beyond.

In her last moments of clarity, she asked her daughter to pack a book to take with her to the hospice facility. It’s title: “When We Get to Heaven.”

Lilia had full confidence of where she was going.

O God, You have taught me from my youth,

And I still declare Your wondrous deeds.

And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me,

Until I declare Your strength to this generation,

Your power to all who are to come.

For Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the heavens,

You who have done great things; O God, who is like You?

You who have shown me many troubles and distresses

Will revive me again,

And will bring me up again from the depths of the earth.  Psalm 71:17-20

A service to honor her life and legacy will be held this spring. Please contact the family for more details.

Precious in the sight of the LORD Is the death of His godly ones.  Psalm 116:15
