Peter Van Horn Judd

Peter Judd – A Life well lived in service to others and God

Peter Van Horn Judd - devoted husband, beloved father of four, cherished grandfather of 12 and great grandfather of 11 - left this life on September 9, 2021 at 9:47 PM ET.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Miriam DeWitt Judd.

Peter was born on September 27, 1932 In Williamsport, Pa. to Nelson Thomas Judd and Sara Martin Judd.  He grew up with two brothers and two sisters. At the time he graduated from Williamsport High School in May 1950, he was an Eagle scout and had earned an athletic scholarship (cross country running) to Pennsylvania State University (Penn State).  He was in the ROTC program.  He met his lifelong mate Miriam DeWitt at Penn State.  He graduated with an Electrical Engineering degree in June, 1954 and married Miriam in November 1954.

Under the auspices of the United States Navy, he attended additional advanced engineering courses at the Syracuse State University and went on to earn his certification as a Nuclear Reactor Engineer at the Westinghouse Bettis plant in Pittsburgh, Pa. in 1957.

His work as a Nuclear engineer and consultant in the Navy and later as a civilian took him and his family to many interesting and exotic places.  Some of those locations included Arlington, Va.; Rio De Janeiro, Brasil; Zagreb, Yugoslavia; Prague, Czech Republic; and Clearwater, Florida where they ultimately retired.  Pete and Mimi went on to be active in the Clearwater community in social and charitable pursuits for a number of years.  They enjoyed serving in Northwood Presbyterian church; participated in Pinellas Opera League and were involved in several book clubs.  They eventually moved into the Saint Mark Village assisted living campus in Palm Harbor, Florida.  Pete will be greatly missed, but all who knew him will rejoice in his reunion with his wife Mimi in heaven.  He was the living example of what a father and husband should be. His legacy lives on through his children and their children’s lives.
