Ralph Schroeder, Jr. Obituary

Ralph Schroeder, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and friends. His passion for life and love of family endured to the very end.  Ralph is survived by his beloved wife Terry, sister Sue and brother-in-law Tom, cherished children, their spouses, and grandchildren.

Born in Chicago and raised in Grayslake, Illinois, Ralph graduated from Bradley University and was a proud brother of Lambda Chi Alpha. He served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War, stationed aboard the U.S.S. Coral Sea, and remained forever honored to have served his country.

Ralph’s sincere nature and personal warmth formed lasting connections. His friendships were countless, his sense of humor unique, and his presence cherished by all who knew him. He was on a first-name basis with everyone he met, always thinking of others, his easy kindness reflected in his simple offer, “What can I get you?”

In his career, colleagues and customers became lifelong friends. His passion for service and strong work ethic carried him across the country, where at every stop he left an indelible mark. Ralph brought a rare blend of creativity and camaraderie that inspired those around him. In retirement, his hands were never idle—his days filled with volunteer work, new business ideas, and time spent puttering at his desk. He was also a writer and photographer, outlets for his natural creativity.  He had a special love of travel and found deep joy, and lifelong friendships, in his adopted second home of Mafalda, Italy.

Ralph’s life was centered on family. Together with Terry, they were a team providing an always available and caring presence in the lives of their children and grandchildren. No sporting event was too far away, no schedule too demanding, no problem too burdensome, and no mistake too serious. As a father, Ralph led by example, and his lasting legacy endures in the kindness, warmth, and family commitment that he instilled in his children and grandchildren.

In our hearts, you will always stay, loved and remembered every day.  Your legacy lives on in the love and imagination you inspired in us.
