Raymond Gammel Obituary

Raymond Clark Gammel, age 78, passed away peacefully at Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor on July 5, 2026.

Raymond was born to Harold and Olive Gammel in St. Paul, Minnesota. Preceding him in death were his parents and three brothers. Family was always important to Raymond.

He was a hard worker all his life, beginning at an early age delivering newspapers in the neighborhood and at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. He served in the United States Army for four years and was stationed at several bases in the U.S. The highlight of his service was being stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. His wife, Patty, joined him there for one year. They took every opportunity to travel in Europe. They spent time with Ray's family in Copenhagen, Denmark. They were delighted to have his parents visit them in Germany and traveled to several countries with them.

Upon return to the United States, Ray's career focused on food service, managing and owning several restaurants in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Nearly thirty years ago he moved to Florida and sold cars in Clearwater.

Ray had a contagious sense of humor, and his laughter and stories made those around him share his humor and laughter.

Ray was an avid fisherman throughout his life. Whether he was fishing in the lakes of Minnesota and Wisconsin or Lake Tarpon in Palm Harbor, Ray could tell you about the big crappie or bluegill and where he caught it. Ice fishing was a passion no matter how cold or snowy it was!

Ray is survived by his daughter, Mindy Gammel Beach, and his granddaughters, Audrey and Sydney, sisters-in-law, Judy and Nancy and many other family and friends. After many years apart, Ray and Patty reunited in Florida, where their early love story resumed nearly fifty years later. Both were grateful for the time they shared there. Ray and Patty strengthened their faith by worshipping at St Mark Lutheran Church in Dunedin, Florida. Their church family was very important to them.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be directed at Suncoast Hospice, 2675 Tampa Road, Palm Harbor, Florida, 34684
