BLACK Rick, age 64, of Palm Harbor, FL, passed away on July 5, 2024, after a short illness. Rick leaves behind a loving family, including his wife Kelsi; daughter Kylee; sons Kory (Elicia) and Max; brother Dave Thorne (Carolee); sisters Samantha Thorne, Vicky Young, and Teresa Black; his grandchildren Logan, Alora, and Alaina; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Flora Thorne, sister Roxanne Waugh, and brother Randy Thorne.
Rick graduated from Cascade High School in Clayton, IN in 1978. He had a thirty-year career in hospitality and retail management. However, his true fulfillment came in the last decade of his life when he embraced the role of a stay-at-home father. During these years, he found immense joy in being present for his family, creating countless memories, and providing unwavering support and love. Rick was known in the neighborhood for his elaborate Halloween and Christmas displays and was always up for a good chat while walking his dogs each morning. His warmth, kindness, and devotion to his family will be deeply missed.
His family will have a private gathering at a later date. Rick cared deeply about ending childhood hunger, so in lieu of flowers the family requests donations in in his memory to Feeding America.
