Robert Ellis Obituary

Robert Marion Ellis was born on September 17, 1941, in Chesterfield, SC, and died on August 1, 2022, in Palm Harbor, Fl. He was the fifth child of Richard Marion and Bessie Mabel Ellis.

Bob attended the Citadel, graduating in 1963. He met his future wife, Mary Ellen Lane, in 1962. They married in June of 1964 and welcomed three daughters to their family. The Ellis family lived in many places, including Ft. Polk, La, Lakeland and Tampa, Fl, Newtown, Ct, and Roswell, Ga.

Following service as a Paratrooper in the US Army and then the Reserves, Bob worked in Operations Management for Allied department stores, including Maas Brothers, Reads, and Rich’s before obtaining his Realtor license and selling real estate in Georgia.

He was a devoted Presbyterian, Methodist, and then Presbyterian again.  Bob had a love for nature, especially birds and deer.  He also had a tremendous appreciation for all sports, especially football.  Bob and Mary Ellen were among the first to cheer the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their inaugural seasons, and later in Roswell, Bob was a devoted Roswell Hornet football fan.  Bob also loved national and international politics, and truly was the definition of an American patriot.

A true Southern gentleman, Bob leaves behind his daughter Martha (Jeff) Sisarsky, Melissa (Jeff Doyle) Ellis, Meredith (Numi) Brennan, sisters Hazel Ellis (Lou Daniel) and Rachel Early (Richard Early). He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ellen, his oldest sister, Ruth Ellis Hunley, and brother, Carl Ellis.  Bob will watch over his eight loving grandchildren, Emma, Ben, Jackson, Morgan, Mollie, Charles, Lane and Mary Ellen.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Bob’s favorite charity, the Jimmy V Foundation for Cancer Research (V.org).
