Ruth Eleanor Prettyman

RUTH ELEANOR PRETTYMAN, 93, died on June 15, 2022, at the Care Center of Suncoast Hospice in Palm Harbor, FL.  She was the daughter of Walter and Dorothea Lyon, born in Marion, OH on August 8, 1928.  A graduate of Bowling Green University and Eastern Michigan University, Ruth started teaching in Caledonia, OH and retired from Tecumseh High School after 28 years of teaching business courses. 

On July 17, 1953, Ruth married H. Lee Prettyman in Marion, OH, and raised their 6 children in Tecumseh, MI.  She and her husband Lee were long-time members of the First Baptist Church of Tecumseh.  Ruth enjoyed traveling.   Family camping vacations took the family throughout the state of Michigan and across the US.  Later, Ruth and Lee traveled abroad extensively. They enjoyed playing bridge, tennis and card games with many of her 12 grandchildren.  Ruth loved to sing–over the years she sang in her college glee club, church choirs and the Dunedin International Chorale and Chorus. 

Surviving Ruth are her sisters Helen Evans of Richwood, OH and Jean Fyffe of The Villages, FL;  daughters Susan (Cady) Craig of Onsted, MI and Palm Harbor, FL; and Marcy (Randy) Mayes of Springfield, MO; and sons Tim (Sandra) of Chicago, IL; Jon (Mary Ann) of Portland, OR;  and Lee (Vicky) of Onsted, MI.  Ruth also had 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lee Sr, her son Robert and her grandson Benjamin.  

Memorial Service/Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday August 27,2022 at the home of her son Lee Prettyman at 8714 Dalton Court, Onstead Michigan 49265. Visitation will begin at 10am and Celebration service will be at 11am. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suncoast Hospice Care Center, 165 West Lake Rd, Palm Harbor, FL 34684.
