William "Bill" Shaw Obituary

Bill was born in Mease Hospital in Dunedin.  He lived his life in Oldsmar, the city which held so many memories for him....memories of growing up with his two brothers, Bucky and Loren and lots of friends. He went to Oldsmar Elementary; Safety Harbor Middle School and Dunedin High School where he played both football and baseball.  He did attend the University of Central Florida for awhile but decided college life was not for him.  He then enrolled in the National Aviation Academy where he got his Air Frame and Power Plant certification but before pursing employment in that field, he was offered “something he couldn't refuse”,  He went into business with his parents in Shaw Motors on SR 580. He played in a rock band where he met the sister of one of his band mates' wife – Patty Merryman.  They were married September 30, 1978.  The new Mr. and Mrs. Shaw lived in Oldsmar with Bill building several new homes for them over the years.  Soon afterwards Bill and his parents sold the business and Bill pursued employment elsewhere.  He worked as a salesman in the paint industry – working for Porter Paints, Dyco Paints, Scotts Paint and several other local firms as he was always looking for a challenge he could meet and surpass. While building one of their homes, he decided he wanted a little less stress in his life and went into Security, working until his death. In his younger days, Bill took flying lessons at Tampa International Airport and he enjoyed playing softball for the Central Christian Church teams – both in the men's league and, especially, in the co-ed league.  All teams included members of his family and close Oldsmar friends.  He was an epic pitcher and his legend lives on.

Bill was adventurous and loved a challenge.  He loved his Mom and always wanted to take care of her.  He loved his wife, Patty, and always took such tender care of her especially when she fell off a ladder and had to be in the hospital and rehab.  When he brought her home, he was at her beck and call until she recovered and even then kept a loving eye on her.  He also loved his family especially his nieces and nephews – always trying to plan fun times for them from birthday parties to vacations.  Bill always planned big; wanting everyone in his life to feel his love and be on the receiving end of his generous spirit.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; his mother, Eleanor S. Davis, one brother, Edward Loren (Pam); niece, Amanda Johnson (David); and nephew, Christopher; plus many close in-laws – all of these people were the basis of his life.
