Judith Ann Downie (Hall), born on August 31, 1939 in Oshkosh, WI, passed away peacefully on October 15, 2024, with her daughter Leanne by her side in St. Petersburg, FL. She was a beloved mother survived by her 3 children, Richard (Peggy) Kohl, Kathleen (Kurt) Kohl-Sherburn and Leanne (Kohl) Rohner, and by 4 grandchildren, Brett (Gena) Baker, Justin (Anna) Kohl, Rick Kohl Jr. and Kaley (Ken) Westphal. She is also survived by 8 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and 3 stepchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and a nephew, with a special relationship to her niece, Linda (Groff) Kuss, who was like a younger sister to her. She was so proud to be the matriarch of such a large family.
She is preceded in death by her husband, William Downie, her parents Stanley Hall and Alverta Schwartz, and sisters Elaine Groff and Pat Kramer.
Judith (also known as Judy or Jude) had an infectious zest for life and was loved by so many people. She was always there for anyone and everyone and cherished all her family and friends. She loved to plan events and give to others in any way that she could. She loved to dance and loved music. She loved happy hours, boat rides, sunsets and sitting back and enjoying her beautiful views of the water and the dolphins. She never took any of this for granted.
In her career she worked as a Nurse’s Aide in maternity at Mercy Hospital, a travel planner and tour guide for Executravel, a restaurant manager of the Hanger restaurant at Wittman Field, and a sales director for the Hilton, all in Oshkosh, WI. She also headed up the Waushara Chamber of Commerce, successfully increasing its membership extensively, while living in Wautoma, WI. She was also a member and leader of many volunteer groups such as Leadership Oshkosh, Rotary Club and Tips Club, in which she received many awards for her dedicated services. She finally moved to Florida with her husband where she quickly made many friends and became the social coordinator and served on the board at her condo complex. Everyone, young and old, gravitated toward Judy due to her welcoming personality. She was one of the sweetest ladies to grace this world. Her physical presence has left us, but her spirit and soul will live on in all of us. She will be sorely missed but happily remembered.
