Olive “Polly” G. Hamilton,
Of Clearwater, passed away peacefully in her sleep following a brief illness. Polly was born in Harrisonburg, Louisiana, and she was middle child of 7 daughters. She loved to be in the woods with her father and could catch more fish than any of us! She graduated from Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA in 1954 with a BS in Chemistry. Polly met Don, her husband of 66 years in Shreveport, LA after being introduced to Don by one of her older sisters Marjorie. Polly and Don courted long distance from 1955 to 1957 while he completed his obligation to the U.S. Army in Germany. They were married in October of 1957 and began their lives together in Shreveport. Citgo sent them onto San Antonio, TX, back to Shreveport, and then to Bartlesville, OK. They made their home in Tulsa from 1966 until moving to Clearwater in 2006 as snowflakes, making their fulltime move in 2016. Polly was a lady of great faith and served as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and Bible Study leader at Kirk of the Hills Church in Tulsa. She was an active volunteer, including Tulsa Young Life, Children’s Day Nursery, the Tulsa Opera, PEO, and the Little Light House. Most recently, in Clearwater, Polly loved to volunteer at her grandchildren’s schools and at Northwood Presbyterian Church. Polly and Don enjoyed being active at Regency Oaks, traveling, and spending time together with family and friends. She loved the Tampa Bay Rays, The Bucs, and any good college sporting event always supporting the local teams.
Polly is survived by her son David G. Hamilton, Sr and wife, Suzanne, of Odessa; her three grandchildren, Claire Hamilton and Anna Hamilton of Orlando; and David Hamilton, Jr of Clearwater. Her sisters Evelyn McDonald (Wayne) of Greenville, S.C., Rose Ellzey of Baton Rouge, LA, and her sister-in-law Kathy Steinwedell of Bloomfield, CT., and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Don Hamilton, Jr in 2024, and her son, D. Allen Hamilton, III in 2012, and sisters Wana Ann Fort, Marjorie Sharp, Jane Noonan, and Lee Mills.
A Family Committal Service will be held at Northwood Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Louisiana Tech David Wanamaker Gibson and Family Prize Scholarship, Northwood Presbyterian Church Clearwater, or the Regency Oaks Scholarship Fund.
