William C. Lewis, 93, died July 18, 2023 at Suncoast Hospice. He was born, June 9th 1930, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the son of William R. and Margaret E. (Pettit) Lewis. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret C. (Askren) Lewis, and in February they celebrated 71 years of marriage. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed traveling the world with his wife Margaret, he was an enthusiastic pilot and would fly whenever.
Bill graduated from Lockland High School, class of 1948. He earned several degrees; Bachelor of Science, Miami University (Ohio), 1954, Masters of Education, Miami University (Ohio), 1955, Specialist in Science, Eastern Michigan University, 1967, and Doctor of Philosophy, THE Ohio State University, 1972
Bill serviced in the United States Air Force and retired, Lt. Colonel in 1990. He was a member of the Air Force Communication and Air Traffic Control Association, Air Force Association, United States Air Force Academy of Graduates, Untied Flying Octogenarians, the Tampa Chapter and The St. Petersburg Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America, Past President of the retired Officers Association, MacDill Air Force Base and was a private Aircraft Pilot.
Bill was also the first swimming coach at Eastern Michigan University in 1963, and then coached for Miami University of Ohio. He retired from Miami University, in 1991 from the Department of Health and Physical Education, Professor Emeritus.
Bill also was a member of the Raymond Mollyneaux Hughes Society (a society of Distinguished Alumni of Miami University); He was a former Board of Directors; Athle-Tech Computers Systems Incorporated and Miami University Alumni Association. He was member of Phi Epsilon Kappa, Kappa Phi Kappa, and Delta Chi.
He served as past president of Kiwanis Club of Oxford, Ohio, Countryside rotary Club of Clearwater. Bill was a Thirty-second Degree Mason with Valley of Cincinnati, Ohio; he was member of American Youth Hostel, International, and an Eagle Scout.
Survivors in addition to his wife, Margaret (Askren) Lewis, his brother Glenn David (Barbara) Lewis of Cincinnati, Ohio, son, Glenn R. Lewis and his wife, Beverly of Columbus, Ohio: daughter Elizabeth Eargle and her husband, Charles Eargle of Statesboro, Georgia; five grandchildren, Kelley Scott (Jonathan), Frankfort, Kentucky, Lauren Collins (Morgan), Metter, Georgia, Layne Akins (Kory), Statesboro, Georgia, Jessica Lewis, Clarkston, Michigan and Dillon Jackson (Kate), Metter, Georgia; 3 great grandchildren, Kaydence Scott, Avery Jackson, and Troy Mason.
Services will be held on July 26, 2023, 11:00 at the Northwood Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Northwood Presbyterian Church, Clearwater or Suncoast Hospice Community Services, 2675 Tampa Road, Palm Harbor, Florida
